Network setup and making UTP cables
1) Ziggo modem in bridge mode
2) PFsense Firewall en tevens router
3) GB switch
4) Voip phones and PC's
5) Camera system with DVR
6) Server with 2 clients connected to a switch.
The server setup
The intention is that the server will have its own domain and DHCP will be installed so that the internal IP addresses will be generated.
For this 2 internet ports are needed.
1 WAN (Incoming) and 1 outgoing
The server only has a WAN.
An extra internet card should therefore be added there
Packet Tracer
For the Cisco Packet Tracer program you trade as follows:
Click on that server.
You see only 1 internet port
You could drag a PT host to that empty place below it.
But the device is turned on and you don't see a power button.
Zoom in.
Then you see the power button.
Turn the device off and then drag a PT host to that empty spot under the 1st port and turn it on again.
Internet cables
Standard cables have 8 wires. 4 twisted pairs
There are different types of cables, the UTP, Unshielded Twisted Pair, the STP, Shielded Twisted Pair, and the FTP, Foiled Twisted Pair.
The UTP is the most commonly used twisted pair cable. This cable is uninsulated.
For connecting telephones, this cable has been used for many years.
In the STP cable, the wire pairs are shielded separately and the cable as a
whole.
This protection makes the STP cable thicker and stiffer. The STP cable also
consists of two wire pairs.
The ever-increasing bit rates over UTP cables lead to extra radiation of
electromagnetism.
To reduce the appearance and sensitivity to external interference, the FTP cable is coated with a layer of metal foil underneath the outer jacket.
FTP is especially important if you let a cable run loosely (not in a PVC pipe) over a suspended ceiling with fluorescent lighting.
TL pulls power away.
For a normal straight cable, use the color scheme below.
Crossover cables connect 2 identical devices together
If you only have 1 internet connection with 1 cable, you can still connect 2 computers to the internet.
Then put an extra network card in 1 computer and then connect the 2 PCs with a crossed cable.
This sequence differs from a straight cable. Write this on a label and stick it on the cable. so that no confusion can arise.
The 2nd PC only has internet access if it is powered on with 2 internet cards.
You don't have to sign in, because that is difficult when your brother or sister has a password on it.
Just turning it on is enough, if you see that login screen, you can already surf the internet on that other PC.
If you've had a Ziggo (Casema) connection and you're going to another provider, then you have to
know that the cable you've had from that provider only have 2 wires.
You can see that through the transparent connector. Then you have to take a cable with 8 wires in it.
All you have to do is to lay them in the correct order.
You don't have to strip the wires yourself.
With a pair of pliers you automatically push the contacts through the insulation.
